Title: New ('95 Vintage) Alternate Disco 2000 Video! - Bar Italia Forum

Of all the Different Class 30 chatter, this is probably the most visceral hitherto unseen reminder of the era. Take a bow (in hindsight) , Jarvis. Being mesmerising through hand-movements and facial expressions while being seated on the same chair for almost five minutes!

Youtube embedding not working, so click here:

I have sorted the video, I had to open the full YouTube link in a browser and paste that in.

Interesting that they used the album version for this.

I also deleted Lucyduck's thread as I read that first.

Ta. We need a Different Class party, this is so good! No need for Darren Spooner this Halloween. Happy DC Birthday!

Ooh I love that. I'm glad they went for what they went for in the end, i love the whole story to the actual video but I'll be watching this more than once too. Brings me right back. Jarvis looking just fabulous. Love the decor. God I miss the 90s.

One other massive thing for me. I prefer the single version that features on the original video.

I think Jarvis said in an interview recently that he prefers the album version of this song (or did I dream that?) I couldn't believe anyone would prefer the album version!!! It's missing so many little elements that the single version has. There's this keyboardy refrain going on, there's layered background vocals, there's the talky bit, there's this buildup thing going into the chorus, the drums also sound different (different hihat sound or something). All those things make the single version the one for me. And there's great keyboards building up to the last chorus when he's washing the lipstick off.

Yes, I'm sure he said somewhere that he prefers the album version. Also, they always play it live as per the album version so this may be a good indication.

I am quite balanced on the subject: I think that the album version works well in the context of the album where the single version works better as a single. I am the same with "Countdown"; the album version is a great opener to side 2 of "Separations" where the more upfront single version is a better single.

Disco 2000, The Fear, Live Bed Show... all those great longer version unfairly cut on albums.

Hah, that was fun to see. I did wonder if it was the same footage that you see in the real video a couple of times, where he's on the telly in the background, but it's different isn't it.

A couple of interesting bits of background detail - Jarv said on Instagram that it's a replica of his front room, and that lamp has appeared before - it's in the 1995 Vox magazine interview I think. And that thing on the mantelpiece looks like the perpetual motion machine that he talks about in Disco-Very.

Any Pulp release is great :) However the lack of love for the single mix of Disco 2000 is shocking. Its far superior in my eyes than the album version (not that I dislike it). I remember listening to that single version on repeat for HOURS at college !

Have they ever played a live version of the single version, as in done the talking bit and the extra keys?

I've only ever heard the spoken word part on the Glastonbury 95 performance... it's on the CD single remixes, too, so I've always imagined it was part of the album version at one point, then cut out.

They replicated the great chords in the build up to the final chorus in the live 96 and 98 performances.

I'm with Ian, I love both versions equally. They work perfectly as singles and album mixes.

There are some incredible live performances of Disco 2000 from 1996 - V96, and Loreley being the stand out performances backed with the Motiv 8 intro. Ive never heard any 1998 performaces of Disco 2000

Main thing I remember from '98 (at Birmingham NEC) was a heavy power chord intro before the riff kicked in.

It's very well filmed. Also, seeing that perpetual motion machine was a minor revelation. Thanks for the post.

I don't think that a recording of that is in circulation but it sounds like it may have been quite similar to the performance at Glasgow a couple of days before (https://feelingcalledlive.co.uk/2019/06/29/1998-11-29-pulp-live-at-glasgow-secc/)
