'Background Noise' triumphed in the audience vote! Don't know what it beat, though.

'Death II' was soundchecked!

Wowzers. They're going well and truly Seppy on us of late! I bet it gets played at the end!

Separations Come Alive!

Background Noise would have been a solid single, glad it's getting some overdue notice.

glad they're reappraising the Separations material... I didn't think I'd be able to hear any of this stuff live outside the '91/'92 era bootlegs!

hope they rip "Death II" soon... "Love is Blind" was already a huge shock after "DYWMA?" lost its votes (and I'm glad they played both anyway)!

Partial Eclipse lost to Background. Death II maybe needs more rehearsing? Imagine if they bust it out at the Royal Festival Hall.

I feel a bit bad about that — both of those two songs off More are absolutely gorgeous, and if they'd have defeated a more lauded track I wouldn't have been unhappy about it.
As it is, they could both do with much more regular playing. 'Background Noise' has been scarce since Edinburgh & I do believe this is the first time they've ever played it while More exists!
They always, always play 'Farmers Market' and while it's a lovely song, 'Partial Eclipse' is better, and transitions more pleasingly into 'Hardcore'.
'Slow Jam' is my favourite song on the album — it's the track that I would actually say is Top Ten Pulp — but I would gladly sometimes swap it for 'Tina' or 'Grown Ups', or 'My Sex', to add a bit of variety.
The latter half of the live set list is an impossible to resist crowd pleasing set of hits — but once you hit 'Acrylic Afternoons' you can predict every subsequent song in precise order, and so I think they could always swap 'Mis-Shapes' and 'Got to Have Love' (which are both top 20 Pulp of all time) out occasionally for other popular tracks. If there's time, you can always play one of them as an encore!

Agree with almost all of that. I think it's a pity that Help The Aged or Party Hard aren't set-staples given the lack of Hardcore material. Even Like A Friend has dropped-off. Giving Sylvia or We Are The Boyz a chance in the fan face-off would be wicked too. I bet Mark and Emma would enjoy cranking it up for those songs.

Also interesting that After You has disappeared completely since More came out.
Re Farmers Market - I think it being Kim's favourite modern Pulp song means Jarvis is always gonna keep it in, unfortunately.

Of course it's impossible to please us Pulp Hardcore the most, as there are dozens of songs we'd love to hear them play.

I'm just delighted that they are forgoing a support slot and playing up to 2.5 hrs with 3 of the core-four now in their 60s. Imagine telling Russell in 1993 - when Pulp gigs still contained a single-digit number of songs - that Pulp had been booked to play a show with two sets of a dozen songs each! He'd have taken a drag on his fag and rightly told you to go swivel...

Interesting that Death II was soundchecked without being on the setlist in the end. Could mean a couple of things... Either they soundchecked it with the intention of it being one of the "voting options" but Jarvis ultimately wasn't happy enough with how it sounded and so swapped it out for the two "More" songs as the options instead.

Could have been intended for the main set, but they simply ran out of time with an earlier than usual curfew.

Or... it is being considered for a future gig...? Can't see it popping up for the Festival shows, so possibly at RFH or Manchester?

Giles Acrylic said there were a couple of treats soundchecked. Obviously not to for the benefit of the common people at the festivals but there's ample space for London and Manchester and the cultured clientele at the End Of The Road.
