Which could put him find him in competition with the rebirth of an old girl-group (All Saint's new lp) and the possible demise of another (Sugababe's greatest hits), and The Long Blondes too of course, for album sales. Like We Love Life and Hits showed (though it didn't do Different Class much harm), it's a very competitive time of year for new lps. Hopefully Jarv's renaissance wont get overlooked.

There's also talk on another thread there that he will play at 6 of Jarvis concerts. Fingers crossed that this is an omen of a tour, after Christmas perhaps.

I'd imagine a physical (cd) release of 'Running The World' will trailer the album by a week or two?

Jarvis confirms solo album plans
The former Pulp man readies LP 'Jarvis'

Jarvis Cocker is set to release his debut solo album 'Jarvis' later this year.

The tracklisting for the album, out November 13, does not include the online release 'Running the World', a former NME single of the week.

The track does feature on the soundtrack for the film 'Children Of Men', which stars Michael Caine and Clive Owen, and was released last week.

The singer is scheduled to play several dates around the album's release.

Interesting... So it's the 13th then and not the 6th. The same week Oasis put out their Best Of I think.

I'm pretty sure those Dublin dates are as part of the Leonard Cohen tribute, the Point holds 9000. Can't imagine that many interested in just Jarvis sadly!

I like 'Running The World' but I was thinking when listening to it last, if it represents the strongest song on his album I'd be very disappointed.

Jarvis Cocker has confirmed details of his solo album.

The Pulp frontman releases ‘Jarvis’ through Rough Trade on November 13.

The album will feature his outspoken swipe at world leaders ‘Running The World’

Meanwhile, Jarv plays tow London dates this year, taking in KOKO on November 15 and the Roundhouse on December 16.

I wonder what the US plans are. I believe when he did that live L.A. version of "Runnin the World," he was there to talk to record labels, so I hope that means a deal is in place.

running the world isn't coming out properly at all - he was interviewed on richard bacon's xfm show last week, and i think he said that because of the sentiments of the single it didn't feel right to have a physical release.

yeah id choose nme version over gigwise, coz they seem to have the exclusive infos on the album. maybe cunts will end up on bside, at best.

i have been lucky enough to hear it......

sorry but my friend who has it wouldn't let me take it away! have heard it twice. 3 or 4 stand out instantly tracks. 1 pretty rubbish one. the rest will be growers. but i won't hear it again till i go back to his work (head office of a 'leading music retail company')

The first thing I notice are the tracks Don't Let Him Waste Your Time and Baby's Coming Back To Me, which are the titles of songs he wrote for Nancy Sinatra a couple of years ago. It's a bit surprising if he has reused those.

Random Thoughts:

 Why reuse those Nancy Sinatra songs? Maybe Jarvis wasn't satisfied with Nancy's versions?

"Fat Children" sounds promising. I love Jarvis in social commentator mode.

Will "Disney Time" have a lot of swearing in it?

Is "Black Magic" a Harry Potter leftover?

ok, here's a very quick word about the album, from the few hearings that i've had. initially it was strange to not have candida's keyboards, it gives it quite a different sound, i think that was what my problem was the first time i heard it. there are a bit of keyboards/piano/flute/other unidentifiable instruments. hawley's guitar sound is very prominent in parts but thats only a good thing, i'm pretty sure he's got backing vocals on another track too (sorry i don't remember which one)
the stand out track for me is fat children, you can imagine it on relaxed muscle if it was heavier.

his voice is much stronger, in my opinion too, it sounds amazing, and on further listens there isn't a crap track on there, so i'm glad i was wrong in my first post

and, josta59, sorry i couldn't give you an "indepth critique" at the time of my first post but i don't have a computer at home and i can only pop on the site very briefly at work.

i would hate an album of A Little Souls. i could live with an album of Everyone Loves the Underdog(s), or even of This Is the Night(s). Cunts Are Still Running the world was a nice little novelty that he wrote in an afternoon in LA, but didn't deserve the focus it got as the one-time candidate for the comeback single. the inclusion of the Sinatra songs has me slightly nervous. i'm losing hope for an album of Catcliffe Shakedown(s)...

I can't imagine being disappointed by anything he does. I admire him more than just about anyone, and I'll follow him wherever he goes. He couldn't lose me if he tried. I guess you could say I'm a true fan. I'm not in love with him or anything. He could go all ABBA on us and I'd grow an afro and buy a lava lamp.

At the moment it's invite only (at least it was last I checked). You don't need to have something no one else has to be a part of it, but it helps a lot with keeping up a decent ratio. The avatar thing is optional, either have a cute animal one, or none at all

The solo album... I finally purchased it.

Yes I waited this long. For the past 18 months I was content to listen to album on mp3. My reluctance until today wasn't so much because I was unsatisfied with the record as I was just offended by the absurdity of the $30 price tag.

I finally convinced myself to purchase the record today when I came across it in a Musicworld Record Store, which is going out of business and selling off their entire stock for 50% off. I still thought it was too expensive, even after the deep discount, but... what the hell, it's Christmas.

I just wanted to say the physical album sounds much better than the mp3s I have on my computer. I just listened to the whole thing through, and I felt as if I was hearing it again for the first time. I'm overall more impressed with the record than I had previously been. DLHWYT, in particular, sounds more nuanced and less plodding, while Jarv's vocals on I Will Kill Again seem more accomplished than I had previously thought. I still think Fat Children is an awkward fit for the album though.

I felt a little dirty buy a CD. They seem so outmoded and wasteful. At this point, my CD collection is little more than a bulky crate that I feel compelled to cart with me every time I move.

Anyway, I agree with pretty much all of this, especially the stuff about CDs, although I'm possibly the only person who really, really likes DLHWYT, to the point where I'd put it in a combined top ten of singles Pulp and their various members' solo and side projects have put out.

I don't know what else would be in it though.

I'm a fan too, of the album version at least - it sounds like he's finally nailed that big, Spectoresque sound he was aiming for with the likes of Bad Cover Version and Weeds. I don't think it's as good live as it often seems to come off as a bit stodgy and plodding, although it's always fun to watch.
