I was just reading about the Pet Shop Boys tour where they are playing only album tracks and B-sides. I also think that someone mentioned it on this forum recently. Whilst it is great that Pulp have been digging into the archives a bit more than they did in 2023 (alongside new material), imagine if they did the same?

So what would your setlist be? The rules are as follows:

  • No singles that entered the charts (so anything from "OU (Gone, Gone)" onwards is not allowed)
  • You are not limited to just album tracks and B-sides, obscurities can be included
  • Side projects / collaborations / Jarvis solo are fine as long as they weren't singles that entered the charts (so for example: "Born to Cry" is allowed but "Walk Like a Panther" isn't)

This is what I would go for:

  • The Fear
  • Deep Fried in Kelvin
  • It's a Dirty World
  • Live Bed Show (extended as per 1996 or 2002)
  • Death Comes to Town
  • Live On
  • Sheffield: Sex City
  • Wickerman (with the string section)
  • Seductive Barry (")
  • His 'n' Hers (with audience participation)
  • My Legendary Girlfriend
  • Have You Seen Her Lately?
  • Maureen
  • Glory Days
  • Ciao! (duet with Miki Berenyi)

Encore

16. Sylvia
17. I Love Life
18. Master of the Universe
19. Being Followed Home
20. There Was

Ok, maybe I have gone a bit too obscure. I could only see about half of that happening in reality. 

Coming up with that setlist was harder than I thought. I kept wanting to put "Party Hard" and "Lipgloss" in there somewhere 

If, in the unlikely event, Russell was involved then I would be tempted to add in a couple of his songs.

I like a lot of your set, the possibilities are endless really... I've often wondered could they make a film or a show of the "epics" and connect them somehow -

Sheffield: Sex City, Deep Fried In Kelvin, Seductive Barry, Wickerman...

Plus possibly David's Last Summer, Catcliffe Shakedown (for a bit of light relief if nowt else).... is there anything else over 7 minutes? The Loss Adjuster perhaps from solo. We haven't really had one for the More era. Hymn Of The North maybebthe closest...

The danger with these deep cuts setlists is we'll end up with half a dozen 7 minute plus songs in the show! I would dearly lovevto hear Separations, Death Comes to Town, Death II and Countdown.

Miner's Strike deserves another outing

Glory Days with the archive montage to send us home

I'm embarrassed to say I forgot to include "The Professional". I'd have it as the first song (before "The Fear") where Chilly appears on stage and plays a nice extended intro whilst the rest of the band take their positions. I think that there's something quite alluring about the first words to the show being "I'm back in full effect".

I think if they were to play "Cuckoo Song", it would work better as a full band version (including Elysian of course). I have never been a huge fan of bands playing acoustic versions during a set of otherwise full band versions.

The Fear - the complete and utter breakdown version ie Park is Mine version so Mark can play guitar hero.

Ansaphone - I used to listen to it alot as a teenager in my bedroom when all I had was TIH, DC, CountDown and Disco 2000 single... 
AF607105 - The Jarvis and Air live version
Sliding Through Life On Charm. Loved this on the MOJO recent CD
Live Bed Show (extended as per 1996 or 2002) - same here
Party Hard - the single version where Candida's keyboards are more un front. This is the song that got me into Pulp back in 98...

I definitely want to see some Relaxed Muscle. Jarvis and Jason in full costume. I always felt that project was his Gorillas.

Loving reading those lists. Didn't they practice a huge amount of songs for the tour so who knows how many of these deep cuts were in there. Wasn't it brilliant to hear 59 Lyndhurst Grove?

Is that a choice or a segue? It would be great if they played "My Sex" to the point where Jarvis' vocals stop and the dreaded chanting starts then faded into "The Professional".

  • Youre a Nightmare
