Potentially promising news on Pulp's future?

'Cocker: I don't think Pulp is over. I never think that, really. But we haven't got plans to do any touring. What would have to happen for us to tour again, I guess, is if we manage to write another record or something like that. We've just finished touring, so everybody's gonna have a bit of a rest. And I will probably maybe towards the end of the year think about saying, shall we have a rehearsal? Shall we see if can write anything? That aspect of it, you can't really predict. I mean,  have my notebook here [produces it from his shirt pocket]. I write ideas down, but until you actually try them, you don't know whether they're any good. Luckily no one has to ever see that aspect of it, so until we try it, I don't know. I've got my fingers crossed. I hope that we will tour again. Obviously, it would be better if it was sooner rather than later, seeing as it's my 63rd birthday tomorrow, so I may not be able to jump on top of the monitors for that much longer. Who knows.'

At the end of last year the talk was that after their time off from October to January, they would get together in February or so, ahead of the Aus/NZ dates and think about new material. I guess that didn't happen, or if it did, that it was tentatively left in an embryonic state.

I feel optimistic, I've seen a handful of interviews around the release of the new film and in nearly all of them Jarvis makes noises towards this not being the end, and that they just need some time off (which I wholeheartedly agree with, they've been hammering it for 3 years pretty much).

Surprised that Jarvis is leaving it for just a few months before suggesting starting again, I'd have thought they'd have had a year or so off, but like he said they aren't getting any younger so if he's feeling particularly creative and the feeling is there with the rest of the band, then a new album cycle or touring cycle in a year or so would be incredible.

They've had a lot of months off during these 3 years. I get that it means they've probably not been able to commit themselves to other work/life opportunities which clashed with touring and had to keep the Pulp brain "on" but there's still great privilege in how they've been able to do it. Pick and choose from different offers and territories, choosing between what pays well and where is somewhere new they hadn't been before - look for the best of both worlds etc.

They never liked non-stop touring even in the 90s and never really repeated it after 1996 as it probably came close to breaking them and maybe played a part in Russell leaving.

Since 2023 they've broken it down in manageable chunks - with comfortable travel and lovely accommodation no doubt!

I think it would be well into 2028 at the earliest if new activity emerged.

Obviously, I don't want Pulp to end but I know it will at some point in the not too distant future. It's been really lovely having them back these past few years. Hopefully they can record another album and do a bit more touring. I'm hopeful, more hopeful that I was post 2002 and 2012.
