Im working in London for all of July and have tickets to the Divine Comedy show at the same venue a week earlier. If I dont get tickets for this Ill be one of those saddos with a cardboard sign outside offering my virtue in exchange for a ticket.
 
 DC and Pulp at the Southbank a week apart is.. a dream.

 Yes, I have a half decent pair in front stalls for Divine Comedy, so fingers crossed for this.  Have to admit RFH is ticking  a lot of boxes for gigs after the suede takeover last year.

 It is effectively sold out with just 3 or 4 single tickets available.  My experience of RFH and Barbican is it is always worth having a look in the days before a performance as better seats will appear (returns from members) and you can end up with far superior seats than the pre-sale.  May not work for pulp, but certainly worked for suede.

We're thinking the membership isn't such bad value IF it bags you the ticket.

£60 for 2 tickets is £30 extra per ticket (you don't need to be Carol Vorderman for that calculation, I know). It also gets discounts on drinks in the venue, so may save £5 each there on the day.

I'm just wondering how many others will also do the same thing, and how many tickets will be made available for SBS members.

 Can you get two tickets per membership?

We managed to get some rear stalls row EE, but I think front stalls were the same price and I messed up in the checkout, pretty sure I could've got some .

At this rate honestly i'm not even bothered and sad i'm not going. I gave up Oasis Wembley tickets at the last step (500 pounds for 3 !) and this is a new low too.

Records are fine for me from now on and hopefully in the future some cheaper tickets.

I disagree with the comments on gig prices, and these ones for Pulp are comparatively cheap; £130 is the starting price for many artists (Stevie Nicks I think I paid that) these days in bigger venues with comparatively worse seats than most will get at this Pulp gig.

Back in the 90s everyone used to spend £12 on albums, with inflation they would be at least double that now. These days we can consume as much we like for £12 on Spotify. Streaming is far too cheap, and the gig prices simply reflect that; if anything you might even argue they are too cheap in some cases.

To add to that Pulp are playing - I believe - with a full orchestra.

All you describe is the root of all problems : high prices have slowly become acceptable. The new generation does not know there was a time when gigs were affordable, the old one has given up and is willing to pay even thousands for a gig. 

You dont own things with streaming. I'm a massive streamer but i also buy everything on CD. One day Apple music or Spotify will go bankrupt, and gone is people's whole discography. Everyone pays 150 a year for music they don't own. How much of that could be forwarded to CD, or vinyls market ? A lot if it was coupled with streaming options.

To me prices for streaming should be higher and include few physical CD/year (5 or 10 ?) at a competitive price, with higher revenues for artists. Everyone wins and the big acts could lower the prices. Do they want to ? I doubt it. So in a way, we are all guilty of that system. me included. 

Its not even about this Pulp gig, since Pulp have still reasonable prices especially if there is an orchestra. It's just that its globally accepted now that gigs are expensive for whatever reasons. When there were/still is other ways.

Agree, those prices only favor the casuals, because they are willing to pay anything and sometimes ridiculous amounts to go.

Bands could also sell tickets with options of a physical sale with it, at a smaller prices. There are solutions and ideas, but record label are more than happy in this situation. They negotiated terrible deals for artists with the streaming platforms.

 Yeah, it's insane how it was slowly but surely accepted those prices. If people stop going, they would be cut them in half guaranteed, and they would still make millions. 

I choose to go only to gigs with reasonable prices now, and it that means not seeing my fav bands ever again, then so be it. I just cant enjoy a 1h30 music session at 200 unless there is something special (like the orchestra, and even then 200 wouldn't really be justified). It's just completely silly.

I have refused to pay more than £100, but whenever a gig is more than £50, I think twice and have decided to not go to a number of gigs because of that.  I might pay £140 for Royal Festival Hall if I can get a couple of good seats, but that is nearly £300 for a night out before drinks and meals.My next gig is £3 at 100 Club.  And it will probably be a pretty good night out for the price of a bag of chips.

Wythenshawe Park is around £77; so if we use an inflation calculator it's actually cheaper than it was in 1994. And that's before you even consider that you are watching a band with four more albums and decades more of experience.

The South Bank gig is an even worse comparison to the 1994 price of £8 as it sounds like they have a full string orchestra or whatever.

Some gig prices are getting silly, but I don't think Pulp's are when you consider how established they are, and their back catalogue. I think they are very reasonable. I wanted to see Oasis but couldn't justify the prices so gave them a miss.

77 is still kinda acceptable, only just. It depends on the venue. If that's a festival, then prices complaint dont apply i suppose since there are many bands.

But 150 for a stadium ticket where you dont see anything, that's the line for me. I'd rather have a smaller event than 3 opening acts i dont want to see and then the band i want to see.

I thought the tickets would be around £100 (due to venue size and its an event gig) but assume the production costs have pushed it up to £140. Second most expensive ticket Ive ever bought after Bruce Springsteen. Hopefully there will be some more, cheaper London gigs before this tour ends (still hoping for a Brixton residency).

Actually managed to get some. My partner was 1185 in the queue. I was number 3. Although it took me to the login page, then after I logged in just took me to my account with no way of getting to the Pulp presale- eventually got back by clicking the link in the email, but I reckon some people will have missed out because of that.

Rear stalls which is fine and £45 cheaper than front stalls, but Im disabled and a Southbank access member and there are no access tickets available for this (apart from a few wheelchair spaces) which takes the piss. But hey, at least Im going!!

 A comment made by the Pulp team on the Facebook page says that they've been assured by the South Bank Centre that there will be no dynamic pricing on these tickets. For those that actually got the email, great news, I guess.

 Seems excessive compared to Divine Comedy (£60) and suede (£75). Pulp are the only band I would consider paying over £100 for but I can't see myself getting a ticket in 20 minutes time.
